Everyone knew how much Ron Weasley hated and feared spiders, and so when his 17th birthday was coming up, his brothers Fred and George conjured a party full of them! Ron's birthday was in early March and he'd be at Hogwart's for it, but not to be deprived of the pleasure of teasing their youngest brother, they planned a surprise during winter holidays from school. They even invited several of his friends from Hogwart's, to witness Ron's good-hearted humiliation. This was their way of "making up" to Ron the source of his fear of arachnids when an infant, Ron suffered his teddy bear turned into a spider by his next-older siblings! The cake was shaped and decorated like an arachnid (complete with long, hairy legs), sandwiches were made of peanut butter (buerre des arachides, in French!), and the party drink was a popular children's dessert drink called "the spider"! Once he learned of his brothers' plans, Ron would have just hidden in his room, if not for an overheard description of the spider drink. He heard Ginny and his mother listing the ingredients: sweet drink mix powder, lemon-lime soda, and ice cream. Hoping against hope that the drink would not be garnished with candied spiders, Ron decided the beverage merited braving his phobia. Besides, he also overheard that they were going to invite Hermione and Harry, and he wanted to make sure they witnessed him overcoming his fear of spiders even if they weren't spiders at all!
